Carla is a nurse at Sunny Lake Hospital. Her story is a special one.
She started in Environmental Services in this very same hospital!
After a few years as a housekeeper, Carla moved into a Team Lead role in the EVS Department. But she still wanted more of a challenge in her work. So Carla took steps on her own towards a successful future.
- First, Carla spent time at home researching careers in nursing.
- At work, Carla approached nurses to ask questions about the job and compared their experiences to her own notes. She investigated the resources her hospital provided to help her go back to school, and identified challenges she would face.
- Lastly, Carla created a support system of family, friends, and coworkers to help her overcome them.
- Carla started her journey by getting her CNA certification and a role as a PCT. From there, she continued her education, and gained experience and better pay with each new position.
Taking these steps helped make Carla’s dream of becoming a nurse into a reality.
