Goal Setting 101
Introducing SMART Goals Remember the secret of Carla's success? She had a Career Development Plan. That's one tool successful people use to reach their career goals. So, what makes a goal “strong”? A strong goal is written using a unique framework that makes it more likely you will achieve it. This framework is called SMART.

Here’s how you make a goal "SMART":
  1. Decide on the goal you want to achieve.
  2. Rewrite the goal to make it Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
  3. Create short-term goals (smaller, milestone action steps) to keep you on track.
Why "SMART" Goals

"SMART Goals" is a framework for writing your goal. It makes your goal a clear and focused statement of what you want to achieve.

The most important part of a Career Development Plan is having a strong, clearly defined, goal.
Simply setting goals does not ensure success.
