Take Your Next Steps
You've done a lot of hard work completing the WorkKeys^® and/or JOFI^® assessments and Career Interest Survey, and analyzing your results. This work has helped you identify jobs and careers that are a potential fit that you might want to explore for your next career move.

Surveys and tests provide valuable insight and can be a great start for choosing jobs and careers. It's important that you do the additional research to fully understand the job and career potential, as well as the education and training required, to be sure it's an overall fit for you.

While many people can successfully perform any role with enough training and determination, we usually gravitate toward jobs that fit our interests and allow us to use our strengths. The most satisfying and enjoyable jobs are those you are interested in and have the skills required to perform well.

Here are a few ways to start your research.

1. Learn about the talent needs in your organization.
Talk with your career coach, your manager, and others to learn more about the jobs your hospital needs most and where there are opportunities for you to grow. Your organization has identified the jobs in the chart above and encourages you to think about your interest in these.
2. Network and learn from those already doing jobs that are of interest to you.
You can learn a lot from people that are already working in the jobs you're interested in. Don't be shy! Most people are happy to talk about their work and share their knowledge. Ask if you can interview them to find out what they like about the job, how they got it and whether they think it would be a good job for you. Job shadowing is another great technique to learn about jobs. When you "shadow", you see first-hand what it's like to work in that job.
3. Research jobs fast-growing jobs in the healthcare industry and your hospital.
Use the online resources in the Appendix to learn about other jobs, their education requirements, what they pay, and their opportunities for growth. **
